The A350 LF3 material is often referred to as Low Temp Carbon Steel Fittings or Flanges.
A350 LF3 is a carbon steel fitting material, that is used in general industrial applications and can withstand continuous service down to -140F. This material is supplied in a normalized condition and then Charpy V-Notch tested at -150F.
The Charpy testing is used to reveal a materials natural ductile to brittle transition as temperature decreases. A test sample is brought down to temperature, notched and then struck by a pendulum device. The device measures the amount of energy absorbed by the material until failure occurs
Raised Face Weld neck flanges, Raised Face slip on flanges, Raised Face socket welding flanges, Raised Face threaded flanges, Raised Face blind flanges, Raised Face slip on plate flanges, long weld neck flanges, orifice flanges, and raised face lap joint flanges, etc.
ASME B16.5, ASME B16.47

Forging Temperature for this material should be 900 – 1200 °C
Soak times should be kept to a minimum to avoid heavy scaling, but sufficient time should be given to allow centre
to achieve furnace temperature.
After forging pieces should be allowed to cool in still air.
Normalizing– Heat to 860 - 920°C for a time commensurate with ruling section, Air cool (If Required)
Hardening– Heat to 890 – 960 °C for a time commensurate with ruling section and quench in Water.
Tempering– Re-heat to 590 °C Minimum as required, dependent on final required properties.Hold for a time
commensurate with the ruling section and cool in still in air.
ASTM A350 LF3 has good to very good machinability, dependent on condition, and operations such as sawing,
turning, broaching, milling etc can be accomplished satisfactorily using standard machine tool manufacturers
recommended speeds and feeds.
ASTM A350 LF3 is readily weldable by any technique
